Danny “Dan” Lee Pemble, age 87, of Scranton, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2022, at Journey Senior Services in Carroll.
Funeral service will be held June 28 at the United Methodist Church in Scranton with the Rev. Angelo Luis officiating.
Casket bearers will be Dan’s son John Pemble, grandson Tyler Pemble, nephew Brett Pemble, son-in-law John Searing, and grandsons-in-law Steve Schon and Jeramiah Schauls.
Burial will be in the Paton Township Cemetery.

Dan was born April 19, 1935, in Oskaloosa, the son of Lloyd and Eleanor (Whitlatch) Pemble. He grew up on a farm north of Scranton and graduated from Scranton Consolidated High School in 1953. Dan enlisted in the Navy Reserves and worked as a fireman on a ship.
He was married to Barbara Ann Sweeney in 1954 in Jefferson. The family lived in Scranton and Dan had several jobs before purchasing a backhoe to dig graves. Over the years he purchased more equipment and operated Pemble Dirt Construction, Inc.
Dan was an avid sprint car racer and was inducted into the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame in 2000. He was known for developing the Chevrolet 350 engine which competed with the Offenhauser engine, which set the racing standard of that day. Dan raced throughout the Midwest and won many titles as #37. He also enjoyed fishing, boating and spending time at their cabin on Blackhawk Lake.
Dan is survived by his best friend and companion for many years, Shirley Keasey of Scranton; his children and their families, son John Pemble (Becky) of Scranton, daughter Mollie Searing (John) of Cumming, GA, and daughter Brandi Pemble of Durango, CO; grandchildren Jennifer Schauls (Jeremiah), Tyler Pemble (Holly), Bridget Schon (Steve), Macey Cain (Jordan), Morgan Searing (fiancé Tyler Koch), and Monte Pemble; great-grandchildren Josephine, Zoey, Jaylynn, Bo, Autumn, Madison, and Brody; nephews Brett and Brad Pemble; and other extended family members.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Eleanor Pemble and his brother Bill Pemble.
